Senior Economist and Economic Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago,
and Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and CEPR. Previously James Meade
Professor of Economics at Oxford (Nuffield College) and Professor of Economics at
Cambridge (Trinity College).
My research asks what risks people face over their lives, and how far they can insure
against them through saving, work, family and government programs. I combine life-cycle
models with structural estimation, working across public finance, labor economics and
macroeconomics.
Recent work covers disability insurance
(a public lecture at Oxford),
family formation and the safety net, and at the Chicago Fed, productivity and the labor market.
